iPhone onboarding

Onboarding appears the first time you open Health.md on iPhone. It explains the local export model and discloses automatic first-party product analytics. It prepares the two required connections before the first run: Apple Health and a folder that you control. Product analytics never includes health values, metric names, health dates, exported files, paths, peer names, credentials, or user text.

The seven steps

1. Welcome

Introduces local exports and starts setup.

2. Health Access

Makes Apple Health connection the primary action while preserving an explicit Skip for Now option. iOS remains the source of truth for every authorization.

3. Sample Export

Shows the shape of generated files before Health.md writes your own data.

4. Obsidian Plugin

Previews the optional visualization workflow. An Obsidian vault is not required.

5. Folder

Makes the Files picker the primary action, with an explicit Skip for Now option. Choose iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, an Obsidian vault, or another document-provider folder.

6. Unlock

Shows the current Individual and Family options alongside a visible Try 10 Free Exports choice.

7. Ready

Summarizes setup, offers Connect and Choose Folder repair actions, and opens a preconfigured first-export preview.

Health permission is recoverable.

If you skip or limit authorization, Health.md keeps setup usable. Open the Health app later to review which categories Health.md can read.

What onboarding does not lock in

Onboarding establishes a safe starting point. It does not permanently fix your export behavior. From the Export and Settings tabs you can later change:

• the local folder and export target.
• date range and lookback.
• selected metrics and special authorizations.
• Markdown, CSV, JSON, and Obsidian Bases output.
• filenames, units, frontmatter, and write behavior.
• scheduling and Mac connectivity.
